How to Avoid Buying a Lemon

CarFax is a dispatch that every used vehicle buyer MUST get and understand. It is either supplied free, by the vendor, or you, the buyer, must pay for the study.

The common CarFax report is 25 pages in length – do not panic there’s a sum up page or 2 that summarises the remainder of the report. This is the 1st page of the CarFax and the most serious. An outline of * title issues, * possession history, and * other info follow. It takes but ten seconds to scan these sections and look for red flags – things that CarFax has determined you must research.

The Details section, under the Automobile History Report, shows all events, like accidents, change in possession, state inspections, and so on.

Each owner of the auto has a slice with all of the details CarFax has amassed. The most recent mileage and the number of past owners is summed up in the Possession History segment. A critical section is the state DMV-Reported Title Issues section. Check if the automobile’s title has been reclassified into : Salvage, Junk, Rebuilt, Fire / Flood, Hail Damage, or Buyback / Lemon titles. If this has occurred, bypass this used vehicle.

The Warranty Check segment is particularly clever because it shows different sorts of extended auto warranty coverage and if there’s any left or if it’s about to expire. If a seller touts about an extended auto warranty, this segment will either confirm or reject that claim.

Front, side, and rear crash results tell you just how safe this used vehicle is to drive. Manufacturer recalls and if they were done to the automobile are covered in the Safety Recall segment. The last section has a cornucopia of info -  Not all vehicles qualify and this is going to be your test too – you shouldn’t purchase that used automobile if CarFax won’t issue a Buyback Guarantee.

This last section represents feedback from vehicle owners of this matching model, make, and year of auto. Trust me that vehicle owners who hate something about this make of car will trouble to warn people like you. Likewise, if you wind up purchasing the vehicle and find issues you can go into CarFax and warn other people not to buy this sort of vehicle.
